Meet Our Teachers
Erik Duran
Guitar • Drum Set • Bass Guitar
Erik Duran is a multi-instrumentalist and dedicated music instructor based in Austin. Originally from El Paso, Erik began playing guitar at age eight and later expanded into vocals and drums. He specializes in rock and heavy music while drawing from experience across a wide range of genres.
Erik began teaching in 2009 and later joined Guitar Center in Austin, where his success as an instructor led to his promotion to Lessons Department Manager. As a lifelong performer, he has played in bands since middle school, toured on Warped Tour, and performed at South by Southwest.
Erik’s teaching philosophy centers on keeping music fun, exploratory, and inspiring. He believes learning an instrument should feel magical—not forced—and strives to help every student discover how to make their instrument truly “sing.”

Meet Our Founder – Carl Clark

Hi! I’m Carl Clark, founder of Clark’s Music Class. Music has been a major part of my life since childhood, beginning with the Fort Bend Boys Choir and continuing through orchestral, jazz, choral, and contemporary music.
As a young musician, I studied upright bass and performed in a wide variety of ensembles, including the Virtuosi Youth Orchestra of Houston and TPSMEA All-State Orchestra. I also had opportunities to perform internationally and participate in an orchestral workshop at Harvard.
I continued my musical studies at the University of North Texas, where I studied music theory, aural skills, and keyboarding while performing in the Men’s Chorus, Symphonic Band, and Lab Band. While working as a recording studio engineer at UNT, I developed a passion for music production and composition. Along the way, I also picked up guitar, ukulele, drum set, and electric bass.
Teaching has been just as important to me as performing. Following in the footsteps of my mother and grandmother, both educators, I developed my teaching skills while working in Austin ISD and was honored as Teacher of the Year at my campus.
Today, I’m passionate about helping students discover their own relationship with music. Whether they’re picking up an instrument for the first time or developing skills they’ve already started, my goal is to help every student grow, have fun, and build a lifelong connection with music.
